Harold M. Sucher
Help us celebrate Harold! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Harold.
On April 11th, 2022 Harold Maurice Sucher passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Harold was born on February 22, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Feige and Benjamin Sucher. He and Janet married on July 11, 1945 and had three children, Michel, Barbara and Ben.
Harold was predeceased in death by his parents, his sister Edith and his first wife Janet and his second wife Phyllis. He was also predeceased by numerous uncles, aunts and first cousins. He was the oldest ever living Sucher and he truly had "9 Lives" cheating death from a plane crash, car crash, prostate cancer and multiple falls among other close calls.
He is survived by his three children, Michel (Susanne) Sucher, Barbara (Yitzhak) Ben-Zvi and Benjamin (Eugenia) Sucher. Harold is also survived by his three grandchildren, Erin (Danny) Merritt, Britton (Jesse Newmark) Schwartz and Sara Lewin. Harold has four great grandchildren, Jalen, Sonora, Reina and Olivia. He is also survived by his loving and devoted companion Adelle Abrahams. They spent 11+ years together following the deaths of each of their spouses.
He served in the US Army from 1944-46, including the occupation of Japan. He built a successful gas station and trailer rental business in Detroit, beginning in 1947, moved the family to Farmington (Michigan) in 1956, and retired in 1988 at age 62; then enjoyed 34 years of adventurous retirement.
Dad was an avid traveler having visited all seven continents. He enjoyed mountain climbing and hiking, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro at age 60. He loved music, particularly Frank Sinatra and the song "My Way" which describes how he led his life. He was an avid jogger (well into his 80s) and loved horseback riding. He enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, and a highlight was attending a New Year's Eve Barbra Streisand concert (her return to the stage after 22 years, in 1994).
No services are planned at this time. We want to thank all those who attended his Zoom hybrid 95th Birthday party. That was truly the celebration of his life. One of his favorite sayings was "in the end we are all just stardust". Well Dad, you are now with the stars. We love you, miss you and will never forget you.
We want to give a special thanks to Valentine Gradinariu and the staff at Simply Together who provided such loving care to our father during the last 2 years of his life. This also extends to American Premier Hospice, Dr. Jorge Chavez and his professional staff for the comfort and compassion they provided.
If anyone wishes to honor his memory, we suggest a donation to either the Honor Health Foundation (www.honorhealthfoundation.org) or the Phoenix Parks Foundation (http://phxparksfoundation/member-giving).
