Mr. Harold David Hart, "Doc", age 80, of Charlestown, Indiana entered this life on January 2, 1940 on Tate Ridge near the town of Moorefield in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the son of the late Harold "Buster" and Della Frances "Fannie" O'Connell Hart. He was raised on the family farm and graduated in 1958 from Central High School on Ryker's Ridge. Harold graduated from Tri-State University of Engineering in 1960. On July 3, 1960 Harold was united in marriage to Donna L. Copeland at the Indian-Kentuck Baptist Church in Canaan, Indiana. This happy union of 60 years was blessed with a son Harold LaVant. In 1961, he was inducted into the United States Army, attended OCS and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged and resigning his commission in 1968. The family settled on a farm in Charlestown in 1971 and became members of the First Baptist Church in Charlestown where Harold served as a greeter for over 17 years and worked at the Hope Center. He enjoyed his membership in the Professional Engineering Society, Clarks' Grant Historical Society, Right to Life of Southern Indiana, Clark County Republican Party, and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Paul Patton on August 5, 1997. Harold retired from South Gravure in December 2005 after 35 years of service. In his spare time he would work diligently on his farms and was a master breeder and exhibitor of poultry and waterfowl. Harold died on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at his home in Charlestown, Indiana. Harold will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Donna L. Copeland Hart of Charlestown, Indiana; his son, Harold LaVant Copeland and his wife, Paula of Charlestown, Indiana; his grandchildren, Logan Hart and Susan Hart; his brother, William Robert Hart of Canaan, Indiana; his sister, Barbara Higgins and her husband, John of Canaan, Indiana; his adopted family and neighbors, Jimmy, Monica, and Debra Espinoza of Charlestown, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold "Buster" Hart, died June 3, 2001, his mother, Della Frances "Fannie" O'Connell Hart, died September 22, 2002, his brother, Charles Hart, died February 28, 2016, his father in law and mother in law, Dale F. Copeland, died June 6, 1975 and Madeline Buchanan Copeland, died February 6, 1988, his brother in law and sister in law, D. LaVant Copeland, died December 7, 1993 and his wife, Betty M. Copeland, died June 26, 2020, and his sister in law, Darla Christie, died July 31, 2018. Funeral services: Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 2 pm., First Baptist Church, 930 Market Street in Charlestown, Indiana. Interment: Canaan Cemetery in Canaan, Indiana. Visitation: Friday 4 pm - 8 pm and Saturday from 1 pm until the time of service at the First Baptist Church. .A final salute will be conducted on Saturday at the First Baptist Church by the Red Greissel Post No. 335 of the American Legion and then Military honors will be conducted following the graveside ceremony at the Canaan Cemetery by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
