Harold D. "Butch" Owens, Jr., age 79 of Beaverton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Pioneer Golden Estates Assisted Living of Clare. On May 18, 1941, Harold was born the son of Harold and Marie (Jenkins) Owens, Sr., on the Springer Farm in Coleman, MI and remained a resident of the Central Michigan area his whole life. He was united in marriage to Anna Brokaw on August 1, 1964 in Midland, MI, which was the beginning of a wonderful fifty-six years of marriage together. Immediately following his high school graduation, Harold served in the U.S. Army for four years during the run-up to the Vietnam War. After his enlistment concluded, Harold began working for the Dow Chemical Company, where he would eventually become a fabricator and serve an impressive thirty-one years. As proud as he was of his career with Dow, Harold was even more so with his other path he walked in life?that of a Pastor with the Church of God. What began with his involvement in the Kingdom Builder's team that helped to grow and build new congregations, led to becoming an ordained minister within the denomination, having served as the pastor at the Clare Church of God from 1989 to 2002 as well as many other area congregations. In his later years, Harold enjoyed his role as a Hospice Chaplain for Clare and Gladwin counties. When he wasn't tending to church matters, Harold could usually be found hunting, fishing, or carving one of his unique, hand-made canes or love spoons.
Harold is survived by his wife Anna Owens of Beaverton, and his two children Michele (Marty) DeRocco of Clare and Michael Owens of Beaverton. Other survivors include his grandchildren Joshua (Tiffany) DeRocco of Bradley, IL., Ryan (Heather) Owens of Gladwin, Adam (Julie) Owens of Royal Oak, MI., James DeRocco of Clare, and Emily Owens of Grand Rapids, MI., his three great grandchildren Tanner and Brodie Owens and Harper DeRocco, and his sister Lydia Middleton. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Marie Owens, Sr. and his brother Steven Owens.
