Harmon Glenn Piper, 87, of Greencastle PA, was ushered into the presence of his Lord and
Savior on September 9, 2022.
He was born at home on October 4, 1934, in Amberson, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the
late Thomas and Mary (Eckenrode) Piper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas of Gettysburg,
Donald of Newburg, and sister Louise Hoover of Newburg.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years MaryEllen (McCulloh) whom he married on June 19,
1965. He is also survived by his two daughters, Susan Koontz and her husband Bryan and
daughters Amorelle and Adelaide of Bozeman MT, and Sharon Dietz and her husband Daniel
and their children Alexander and Alaina of Pittstown NJ. He is also survived by one brother,
Robert of Newburg.
Harmon was a 1953 graduate of Fannett Township High School in Dry Run, PA. He served in
the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Atacapa. After discharge from his military service, he
completed his degree at Chambersburg Business School in Business Administration.
He was employed for over 10 years by the S.A. Heisey and Sons Orchards of Mercersburg as an
accountant. Harmon then began a long-term association with the H.C. Gabler Trucking
Company of Chambersburg where he served as Financial Controller and would continue until
the end of his career at the age of 80.
He was a deacon and treasurer for the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, and then served in
the same capacity for Maugansville Bible Brethren Church for a combined 45 years.
Harmon enjoyed vacationing with family, gardening, hunting, the Philadelphia Phillies, Penn
State football, and southern gospel music.
The family will welcome guests on Saturday, September 17, 2022, beginning at 10am, with the
Memorial service starting at 11am at Maugansville Bible Brethren Church in Maugansville, MD.
Pastor Chad Carter will be officiating. The Celebration of Harmon's life will be immediately
followed by a reception and visitation time with the family. The interment will precede the
memorial and be private. Military Honors will be provided by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either WCRH 90.5 The Compass
(WCRH.org) or Doey's House (hospiceofwc.org).
