Boonville - Harland E. Pitcher passed away at his home in Boonville on Thursday, February 10, 2022, two days past his 94th birthday. He was born in Boonville on February 8, 1928 the only child of the late Harold and Maude (Hartman) Pitcher.
Except for two years living in Gouverneur, he was a full time resident of Boonville where he was raised, educated, and worked. His early career was working for local dairies including Barnard's, Central Adirondack and Mercer's Dairies. In 1968, he was hired as the grocery manager at Williamson's Foodland where he worked until his retirement in 1999. His career of working with the public made him a well known personality in the Boonville area.
On July 2, 1949 he was united in marriage with Alice J. Daskiewich of Boonville at the First Baptist Church.
Harland Pitcher was a hard working family man who was always concerned of the needs of his family. The family is grateful for his long and healthy life and will miss his wisdom and sense of humor. Special recognition goes to his granddaughter, Megan, who became his caretaker and advocate in his final days enabling him to fulfill his desire to go in peace in his own home.
He was a long time member of the Boonville First Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Tuesday Morning Men's Group.
He is survived by his wife and four children, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His children include; James (Margaret) Pitcher, Boonville, Robert (Dr. Lynne) Pitcher, Harlingen, TX, Debra (Steve) McConnell, Boonville and Kimberly (Dennis) Ruth, West Branch; the grandchildren are, Brian Pitcher, Pleasant Valley, Megan Pitcher Podkowka, Blake (Christy) Pitcher, Herkimer, Erin (Michael) Stavrides, Lynnwood, WA, Jennifer McConnell, Nicholas (Rene) Pond and James and Shannon Ruth, (Justin Aiello); great grandchildren are Ashton Pitcher, Charles Pitcher, Lukas Podkowka, Emerson and Evangline Pitcher, Kaitlyn and Melanie Stavrides, Kaylee and Levi Pond.
In keeping with his wishes there are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Boonville Cemetery.
