H. Charles Anderson of Kodak, TN passed from this life to the life eternal on April 19, 2021. He was born in West Palm Beach, FL, where he later met the love of his life, Gale, at "The Hut" in August of 1958. They married on May 7, 1960 at First Baptist White Pine.
He began his career as a sheet metal worker and, after years of hard work, he started a small single-family home construction business in south Florida with David Kimmel. While he loved the ocean, diving for Florida lobster, and the sand between his toes, the mountains also called to him and that brought the Anderson family to east Tennessee over the course of the 1980s. He built Tree Tops Resort of Gatlinburg, which preserved the beauty of Roaring Fork with vacation homes that nestled in the landscape among the trees. He went on to build Oakmont Resort and Sunrise Ridge, bringing jobs to the community and joy to many families. He came out of a very active retirement to rebuild Tree Tops after the 2016 Gatlinburg fires.
Charlie was a fighter who relished hard work, lived a great life, and overcame adversity with legendary persistence. He played football with Burt Reynolds at Palm Beach High even though he had to hold down an after-school job to help his family buy groceries. He loved traveling with Gale, golf (even after the loss of his right leg), the UT Vols, tinkering around his property on his skid-steer, trips with his Gatlinburg friends, and his dog Scooter, but most of all, he loved his family and he loved the Lord. He This world will not see his equal, but his grieving family take comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with the friends and loved ones who have passed before him.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother Florence Davison and his father Hugh Anderson. He is survived by his beloved wife Gale Hardy Anderson; his children Misty Anderson (John Tirro), Christopher Anderson (Angie Barnes-Anderson), Kelli Anderson; his grandchildren Anderson Tirro, Trevor Tirro, Alexandra Harpst-Anderson, and Olivia Paige Anderson-Corwin; his sister Kay Boatwright and family, and his sister-in-law Barbara Marsden and family.
The family will receive friends 3-5 PM Saturday, April 24 at First Baptist Church, Gatlinburg, where Gale and Charlie were long-time members. A funeral service will follow at 5 PM Saturday. The family asks that anyone who comes to pay their respects also attends to COVID safety measures during our time of grief. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sevier County Food Ministry. They also ask that those who have memories of how Charlie touched their lives share them at the Atchley Funeral Home Tribute Wall so that they can read them together. www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
