Guy J. Newell Jr., 92 of Newport, New Hampshire passed away peacefully at Summercrest Assisted Living Facility with his wife Irene, by his side on January 17, 2021.
He was born to the late Guy and Mabel Newell on May 26, 1928 in Manchester. Guy was a graduate of Manchester West High School in 1948 where he was class president and captain of the football team during his senior year.
He joined the United States Coast Guard where he served on board a ship to report weather conditions back to land, off the coast of Maine and in San Diego, California.
He married his high school sweetheart, Irene Marcotte, in June of 1950. They enjoyed over 70 years of marriage.
When Guy and Irene returned to N.H. he became a salesman for a vacuum cleaner company then he represented a mattress company traveling all over New England. In 1964 he went to work at Fallon's Furniture as a salesman and loved it so much, he and his wife purchased the store from James and Beatrice Fallon in 1967, where they worked until their retirement at (55) in 1982. They spent two years traveling the U.S. in their motorhome, then lived in Florida until 2019. The last 10 years in Lakeland.
Guy loved to fly his airplane and loved boating on Lake Sunapee where they summered every year since 1968. In his younger years he enjoyed skiing at Mt. Sunapee with his family.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Irene Marcotte Newell and two sons, Guy J. Newell III and Stephen M. and Linda E. Newell, plus two grandchildren, Stephen Marc and Amanda Newell, and Jennifer Newell Guilmette and her husband Christopher (Buddy) Guilmette. As well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Carlton Newell and Leonard Newell and one sister Shirley Newell Myrdek.
A Mass will be held at a later date at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on 32 Beech St., Newport N.H. 03773. He will be buried at the N.H. Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen, N.H. If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please send it to St. Patrick's Church.
