Guy McGiboney, Jr., age 89, of Covington, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022. He was born on April 16, 1933 to Guy and Viola (Chapman) McGiboney, Sr. who have preceded him in death. Guy was also preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Cook and Jean Simmons. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Guy retired from AT&T. He then devoted his time to building houses for Habitat for Humanity and McGiboney Construction. Guy was a respected member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington where he served on various committees. Guy served on the Newton County Board of Education and was a Newton County Recreation Department leader. He was a Rotarian, Mason, a Lions Club member and Elks Club member. During his leisure time, he enjoyed grilling chickens, smoking turkeys and hams, and making Brunswick Stew for family, friends, and various organizations!
Guy resided at Merryvale Assisted Living for the last 7 years of his life. He enjoyed working on puzzles with friends. Many of the puzzles are framed and on display at Merryvale. Guy had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories and jokes with family and friends.
Mr. McGiboney is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol (Stroud) McGiboney. He is also survived by his three daughters Lisa Phillips (Dan) of Anchorage, Alaska, Donna Weesner (Chris) of Covington, Georgia, and Yvonne McGiboney (Emily) of Columbus, Georgia.; grandchildren, Emily Phillips (Emma) of Bristol, Connecticut, Elizabeth Phillips (Matt) of Southborough, Massachusetts, and Jack Weesner of Tifton, Georgia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church Covington at 10 o'clock, Saturday, June 4, 2022 with Reverend Neeley Rentz Lane officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Covington in Guy McGiboney's name.
