Guy T. Malanson of Torrington, passed away on April 22, 2020 with loving family by his side. He was born in Providence RI on July 31, 1946 to the late Whitney and Virginia Hunter Malanson. When he was a child his family moved to New Haven, CT. During his youth he was a member of The White Oaks Club, which fostered his love of nature. He was active in his Methodist youth group, enjoyed gardening for his neighbors, spending time with his cousins, and loved playing basketball. Guy graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1965. He graduated in 1973 from the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in Operations Management. While there, he made lifelong friendships that he cherished. He also studied martial arts, and was active in the community. He participated in fundraisers, and coached a team in the New Haven Bed Races.
Guy became interested in natural remedies for health, and fostered that spirit by working for Shaklee. He believed in the healing power of nature, and he truly enjoyed sharing nutritional tidbits with anyone that sought his counsel. He spent his career in various management positions, most notably at Whitney Center in Hamden, and The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. He always had an entrepreneurial spirit, which drove him to create and run several small businesses including a handyman business, A Touch of Gray.
Guy was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Timothy. Guy is survived by his wife & soulmate of 30 years, Gail Briggs-Malanson, his son Hunter F. Malanson, his wife Megan and their sons, Luke & Erik, daughter Hope E. Rearick, her husband Justin, and their sons Declan & Kellen, and his former wife, Linda F. Malanson. He leaves behind several cousins and many close friends that he considered family. He will also be greatly missed by his faithful dog Trixie.
Guy cherished spending time with family, a good movie, and vacationing. Trips to Disneyworld, Cape Cod, & Ogunquit ME were some of his favorites. He also loved a good meal with friends, crossword puzzles, music, and writing poetry. In retirement he enjoyed spending more time gardening, birdwatching and playing pinochle at the Sullivan Senior Center. Guy will always be remembered as a friendly, warm, spiritual, generous, and caring family man who will be sorely missed by those that loved him. He had a natural ability to make someone smile, laugh and feel loved. The next time you see a dragonfly, think of him with love.
