Gus Cherwon was born in Havana, Cuba, to Polish parents, Gustave and Justine Czerwonajcio. The family migrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Gus attended Zion Lutheran School , Central High School and The University of Bridgeport. Gus served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked for Dansk Designs, Ltd. and Gerber Legendary Blades. In 1978, he became an independent manufacturer's rep for high end culinary products. Gus and Carolyn married in 1980 and lived in Detroit, MI before moving to Ann Arbor, MI in 1985 where they built their "dream home" on the 16th fairway of Ann Arbor Country Club. In 1989, Gus was elected President of AACC. In 2003, Gus and Carolyn retired to Bluffton, SC.
Gus is survived by his wife, Carolyn, brother Joe and his wife Phyllis, and sister-in- law, Jerry Dillman, niece Allison Berres, nephew Chad Dillman, 3 grandnieces and one grandnephew. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. For more information, visit www.saulsfh.com.
