In her early years, Gudrun resided in Berlin (Kreuzberg district); albeit from 1943 to 1944 she lived in a village in the former East Prussia. She finally settled in Southeast Texas after Gudrun met and married Arthur Lamar Caples her sweetheart and husband of 59 years. They met while he served supporting a joint Cold War project; Operation Gold (Berlin Tunnel).
Gudrun achieved an Art degree in Berlin. Then continued studies and work with the Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM). Gudrun retired as a lab technician with Texas State Optical (TSO). Upon retirement she became a member of Beaumont Chapter State Federation Porcelain Art Clubs of Texas. Then her attentions turned to care for her husband who suffered from Alzheimer's.
Gudrun enjoyed family and friends, gardening, reading, history, and traveling; she loved shopping and getting a good deal. She loved dancing with Arthur. In childhood then her early 30's inner ear issues led to hearing loss with her world mostly silent but expressed herself in many forms of art especially porcelain.
Gudrun is survived by her son, Arthur Lamar Caples Jr., daughter, Ingrid Gail Caples; grandson, Zackery Lee Caples; brothers Werner and Herbert Schulze; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Erich, and sister Ingeborg Schulze: grandsons Kasey Don, and Troy Jerome; and daughter in-law, Janice R. Caples; and numerous other family members, in-laws, and dear friends.
A gathering of Ms. Caples' family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 10th, 2022, at the family home in Lumberton, Texas.
