Lupe was born on July 22, 1927 in Fort Stockton, Texas to Pedro and Maria Gutierrez. At an early age she found the love of her life Cipriano Velasquez who was in the Army. They had 15 children (11 girls and 4 boys) and raised them up on the ranch. Her kids, Emma, Velia, Francis, Dora, Gloria, Cipriano Jr, Luis, Hope, Tony, Joann, Ann, Kim, Marylou, Alex, and Cindy were Lupe's top priority. She often expressed that the most important thing to her was that her kids were clean and had everything they needed. Lupe was a natural problem solver and very intelligent when it came to math in school and in life. She loved her home, to clean, sew, work in the yard, cook, make tortillas, count her money and raise her family. She raised her 15 kids, 3 grandchildren and a great granddaughter. She worked for 20 years as a housekeeper and you would always hear her tell her story "I worked for 20 years and it felt like 1 day, I just wanted to provide for my kids". Lupe was always the family leader and inspired her family to work hard, be a good person, always remember God is Big, and take care of your family. Her intelligence radiated through her family as she passed on life advice and inspired her grandson Tyler Yancey to become a Petroleum Engineer. "My drive, determination and math skills come from my Grandma. I love you my Grandma, always. You're my best friend".
