Mr. Gregory Phillip Thompson, Sr., age 73, of Calhoun, GA, passed away Sunday morning, July 25, 2021, in a local hospital.
Mr. Thompson was born in Summerville, GA on May 27, 1948, son of the late Melvin and Thelma Phillips Thompson. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Eunice Ruth Thompson, and by 2 brothers, Jim and Donnie Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He started Seven Hills Fire Protection in 1994 and operated for many years until the company was sold in 2005. Prior to his retirement, he served as Vice-President at ATCO Fire Protection. Mr. Thompson was currently attending Damascus Baptist Church in Calhoun, GA.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ann Dempsey, to whom he was married on August 22, 1997; 2 daughters, Peyton Amos (Gary), Statham, GA, and Kim Russell, Kingston; 3 sons, Gregory P. Thompson, Jr. (Kelly), Rome, Matthew Thompson (Torey), Somerset, KY, and Dustin Thompson, Winder, GA; 2 sisters, Peggy Tanner and Connie Beasley, both of Rome; 3 brothers, Ronnie Thompson, Crestview, FL, Dan Thompson, Pontotoc, MS, and Buck Thompson, Rome; 18 grandchildren, Ansley and Gregory "Trey" Thompson, III, Ezekiel, Esther, Ezra, Eve, and Enoch Thompson, Eden and Dallas Russell, Vanessa Davidson (Cody), Jacquelyn Brooks, Victoria Scoggins, Douglas Simmons (Tamara), Samantha Simmons, Zachary Simmons, Kaitlyn, Joey, and Deanna Thompson; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Thompson will be cremated and no formal services will be held. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Cancer Navigators, 3 Central Plaza, Box 415, Rome, GA 30161.
