Gregory Ervin Buchanan
January 19, 1963 ~ May 28, 2022 (age 59)
Gregory Ervin Buchanan, age 59, unexpectedly departed this life on May 27, 2022 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Gregory Buchanan was born January 19, 1963 at Madison County Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee to Shannon M. Buchanan, Sr. and Bennie Lee Buchanan.
After graduating from Bolivar Central High School, in May of 1981, he joined the US Army.
He professed a hope in Christ at a young age with Greater Springfield MB Church.
His incredible thirst for knowledge and purpose in his work led him to the following vocations: an Army medic, OR surgical technician, correctional officer, semi-truck driver, and a police chaplain for the Lafayette Police Dept. His most notable accomplishment was becoming an ordained minister on September 6, 1992 at Word of Life Fellowship Church. Throughout his life, he held many hobbies including swimming, riding motorcycles and collecting old vehicles, such as his brother’s 1964 Ford Truck and 1973 Buick Riviera. He also loved listening to many genres of music and played trombone, guitar, and piano.
Greg devoted a great deal of his time to studying Hebrew, listening to sermons and reading various versions of the Bible. He was a member of the Edge Church in Cabot Arkansas—where Dr. Dwain Miller is the Pastor.
While battling end stage kidney failure, Greg never lost his hopeful and zealous spirit. He will be remembered for his strong faith in the Lord and deep love for his family and his friends. Not a day went by without him contacting his immediate family to send scriptures and positive messages to help start their day. Greg considered no one a stranger. Every person he met couldn’t help but be uplifted by his kind demeanor, encouraging words, and humility. His all-consuming love for life, God, and his family will live on in the lives of everyone he touched.
Gregory was married to his high school sweetheart, Andrea Parks Buchanan for 34 years. They have 4 children: Gregory K. Early (Sherri) of Cincinnati, OH; Vinéecia L. Buchanan of Nashville, TN; and Isaiah A. Buchanan and Jacob B. Buchanan of Little Rock, AR. He was also blessed to have 3 beautiful grandchildren: Nathan, Kristen, and recently born Chase Earley.
Preceding him in death was his father, Shannon Buchanan, Sr; maternal grandparents, Walter and Hassie Gregory; paternal grandparents, John and Tealie Buchanan; and his older brother Shannon Buchanan, Jr. Greg left behind his 94 year-old mother Bennie Lee Buchanan and siblings Sandra Buchanan of Memphis, TN and Michael Buchanan of Bolivar, TN. In addition, a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends through which his love and greatness will be perpetuated.
