Greg A. Smith, 76, of New York City and Naples, Florida, passed away on February 16th after a prolonged illness.
Greg was born on September 21st 1945 to James and Ella Smith in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received a BS in Applied Mathematics from Engineering School of the University of Tulsa and an MS in Mathematics and Economics from Columbia University.
Mr. Smith was the Chief Investment Strategist for Prudential Financial from 1982 until his retirement in 2001. In addition, Mr. Smith was the Chairman of Prudential's Investment Policy Committee and managed a $100 million Capital Account.
Prior to joining Prudential, Mr. Smith was an executive vice president, chief strategist and director of research with E.F. Hutton & Co. Prior to joining Hutton, Mr. Smith was with Goldman Sachs & Co.
During his career, Mr. Smith was voted to the Institutional Investor All-American Research Team in portfolio strategy 17 times. Based on a study conducted by the Wall Street Journal, Mr. Smith was recognized for the performance of his asset allocation models.
In 2001, Greg retired and enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, writing a weekly commentary on world and economic issues and managing family money. Greg is survived by his wife Marcella, their children, Samantha, Garrett and Alyssa; his children Josh and Erin and his sister Patsy Larry.
Services will be held at The Church of St Paul the Apostle in New York City on March 12th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made in his memory to the Greg A. Smith Endowed Scholarship in Math and Engineering at his alma mater, The University of Tulsa. He was ever grateful for the life changing opportunities his TU education provided.
