Gracie Griffin Wiley , 72 May 14, 1947 - Nov 1, 2019 Gracie Mae Griffin Wiley, 72, long time resident of Waynesboro, PA, passed away, Friday, November 1, 2019, at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA.
Gracie was born May 14, 1947, in Caswell County, NC to the late Willie Griffin and Sadie Mae Adams Griffin. She married Eddie H. Wiley in Washington, DC in 1966 and later welcomed their daughter. They began a life as a military family, traveling extensively. Gracie is a 1991 graduate of Hagerstown Junior College and later earned her Bachelor's
Degree from Excelsior College of New York. She retired after 37 years of working for the US Government at The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Gracie enjoyed and gave numerous hours of her time volunteering at Hagerstown Community College since 1996 with the Alumni Association. She served several years as a director on the Alumni Association's Board as well as one term as Vice President. She was named as Outstanding Alumni of the Year 2019. Gracie was also an active member of Blacks in Government. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Gracie is survived by her Mother Sadie Adams of Eden, NC; her husband of 53 years, Eddie H. Wiley of the residence; her daughter, R. Kim Wiley of Northern, VA; four sisters, Avanetta Watkins, Irene Hairston both of Eden, NC, Crystal Lane (Lamont) and Deborah Blackwell (Willie) both of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Luther Griffin and Carlton Adams (Fannie) both of Eden, NC as well as a host of other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her stepfather, Richard Adams; three brothers, Ralph Adams, Ben Griffin and William Griffin.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 2 PM from Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Grady Belcher, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
