Gracie Odom Ratliff passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10th, 2021. She was born August 1935 to the late Reverend Richard Odom and Bertie Hoyle Odom. Gracie is preceded in death by her spouse, William Ratliff, and her brothers Malloy Odom and Billy Odom, sisters Shelby Lowrimore, Eloise Rivers, and Martha Bailey, and her son-in-law Al Graham.
She is survived by her sister Peggy Hughes and her daughters, Jeanne Trexler (Dwight), Janet Call (Chris) and Janice Graham. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Mairy Tyson (James), Kathryn Barbee (Jake), Daniel Trexler, Sarah Best (Chris), Rebecca Call, Austin Graham, Logan Graham, and Shane Graham. Gracie is survived by her 3 great-grandchildren: Walter Best, Harriet Best, Wyatt Tyson and one on the way.
Gracie was a legal secretary in Wadesboro and Monroe. She began her career with Pat Taylor Sr. and Paul Kitchen in Wadesboro followed by Pat Taylor Jr and Moran McLendon Jr. She retired with Clark, Griffin & McCollum in Monroe.
Gracie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wadesboro. After her marriage to William Ratliff she joined Deep Creek Baptist Church. She was a member of the church's WMU, taught various Sunday School classes, and served on many committees.
Gracie greatly enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She spent countless hours canning and freezing vegetables from William's bountiful garden. She was also an avid bird watcher in her later years. She enjoyed listening to the music at Brookdale and singing hymns and songs from her youth. She also enjoyed painting at Brookdale.
Her daughters are grateful to the staff of HomeInstead in Monroe who cared for Gracie in her home. They are also thankful to the staff at Brookdale in Monroe and Hospice of Charlotte for their wonderful care and kindness. The family will have a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church, 1280 Beck Road, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or Hospice of Charlotte. (www.hpccr.org)
