Grace Marie Sykes Millet, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia, at the age of 91. Family members were blessed to be at her side.
Grace was born in Wilmington, NC, to parents Theodore and Kether Pickett Sykes. It was there that she met Harold James Millet, the love of her life. After a whirlwind relationship, they married, having dated for only six weeks. The couple went on to have three daughters and were married for 62 years. Because of Harold's job, the family moved quite often to include living outside the United States. After her husband passed away, she moved from their home in Easton, MD to Georgia to live with her oldest daughter, Diane in Columbus, and St. Simons Island. She also spent time visiting for extended periods with daughters Debbie in Maryland and Donna in Alabama.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers Reginald, William, Russell, Robert and John Sykes.
Grace is survived by her daughters Diane Hinnant (Larry) of St. Simons Island, GA, Debra Chance (Thomas) of St. Michaels, MD, and Donna Black (Russell) of Huntsville, AL; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
