- Grace was born in Michigan City on August 17, 1924 to the late Gabriel and Julia (Pikulik) Vitzer. On May 20, 1950 Grace married her childhood sweetheart, Roy Wesley Lee, he preceded in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, James Allen Lee; sisters, Eileen Shebel, Mary Pozsgai; and brother's -in-law, Eugene Pozsgai & Leonard Shebel.
Left to cherish the memory of Grace is her son, Randall (Eleanor) Lee; grandchildren, Alicia (Joe) Kominowski, Randy Lee, II; great-grandchildren Zoey, Quinn, Max and Ezra Kominowski; sister, Barbara Lingus; along with many nieces & nephews she loved so dearly.
After graduation from St. Mary's Catholic School, Grace worked at local banks, and the Civil Service. In 1944 Grace joined the United States navy where she served honorably for two years during WWII, and four years in the Navy Reserves. Grace was a long-time member of the W.A.V.E.S. National Organization, and in 1988 she organized a unit for the State of Indiana, called the Michiana Tidal Waves (Women's Veterans). Grace was active in charity work and military affairs.
For 20+ years Grace worked in the accounting department with the former Torrington Company. She was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, and a member of the American Legion Post #50, Pioneers Club. Grace enjoyed music, nature, especially birds & animals, the arts, along with knitting and crocheting. Grace played golf and made a hole-in one at Bowlers' Country Club.
Grace will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joseph Cemetery, with Military Honors.
The family would like to thank Thomas Boits for his care and compassion for Grace.
Friends will be received at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 South Mayflower Road, South Bend, Indiana on Saturday, July 31st from 12:00pm until 2:00pm where services will be held at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
