Gordon Frank Wheat, born January 27, 1943, in McNary, AZ to Hosea and Hattie Wheat passed away on March 14, 2022, suddenly in his home at the age of 79. A viewing and visitation will be held at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive, on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 2-4PM. A memorial service will be held later in Roswell, NM on April 9, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 9:30am. Gordon's final resting place will be in the Veteran's Wall at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, NM. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Gordon married the love of his life Paulette O'Dell on October 16, 1965, in Mesa, AZ at the LDS Temple. Gordon served in the United States Army from 1966-1969 as a Light Weapons Infantryman and HAWK Missile and Launcher Repairman. Gordon and Paulette moved to Roswell, NM in January 1977, where he went into business with his Father-In-Law, Eugene O'Dell operating a lumber yard and transitioned into Pine Lodge Truss for 40 years. Gordon and Paulette went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Medford, Oregon in 2014 where they served in the Bishop's Storehouse. When they returned, they served as temple workers at the Lubbock Temple in Lubbock, TX for 4 and a half years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Hattie Wheat, his parents-in-law, Eugene and Coreene O'Dell, his infant brother Ellsworth Wesley Wheat, his half-sister, Wanda Watkins, his daughter-in-law, Lara Wheat, and his great-grandson, Ryan Gluff.
He is survived by his eternal companion, Paulette Wheat. Son, Brent Wheat and wife, Shawna; Son, Eric Wheat; Daughter, Sherry States and husband, Wayne; Daughter, Angie Flores. Grandchildren; Brittany (Nick) Richburg, Sheridan Gluff, Kasey (Julie) Wheat, Tristen (Holly) Allen, Emily Wheat, Abigail Wheat, Dakota Flores, Lane Flores, and Logan Flores and 10 Great-Grandchildren, Austin, Jordan and Kade Richburg, Kaleb Gluff, Ashlynn, Harper and Easton Wheat, Elliott Lopez, Grayson and Spencer Allen.
