Gordon Charles Girard, Sr., 82, Passed away in Florence, SC on Thursday, March 31, 2022 with his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol by his side. Gordon and his family had made Brunswick County, NC their home for the last 35 years. He was born in Winchendon, MA, a son of the late George Joseph Girard, Sr. and the late Gertrude Ruth Aiken Girard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Melissa Girard and his seven siblings, Barbara Girard, George Joseph Girard, Jr., Larry Girard, James Girard, Richard Girard, Linda Basso, and Dennis Girard. Mr. Girard was a veteran of the US Air Force. He and his family built many wonderful beach homes together all along the North Carolina coast. He was a devoted father and family man who was a friend to all and loved by many. Mr. Girard was known as "Uncle Gordon" by family and friends alike. He loved volunteering at the school where Mrs. Girard was a teacher, helping do whatever was needed of him. He enjoyed traveling with is family and had a passion for gardening. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Elizabeth Pierce Girard; seven children, Nancy Jane Betourney (Steven Sr.), Gregory Charles Girard (Keitha), Gerry Carlton Girard (Brenda), Gordon Charles Girard, Jr., Julia Stoddard (Brett), Jeffery Ernest Girard (Jennifer) and Adam Joseph Girard; his surviving brother, David Girard (Sandra); fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will hold a memorial service in Massachusetts at a date TBD. Cain Calcutt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Girard family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Ronald McDonalds House or St. Jude.
