With sadness for ourselves and rejoicing for her, the family of Glennis Faye (Roper) Cagle, announces her passing on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Northside-Cherokee Hospital. Glennis was born April 30, 1939 and was 83 years old. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Cagle, her daughters, Cindy Turner and MaryAnn (Barry) Page, grandsons, Stephen Turner, Jim (Nicole Lord) Turner, Bo (Sarah Pinson) Page and granddaughter, Clare (Brandon) Ward. Greatgrandchildren Jack Turner, Wyatt Turner, Garrett Lord, Henry Turner, Charlie Lord and Adalynn Ward also survive as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. Glennis was preceded in death by her father, James Eugene Roper, her mother, Mary Willie (Goss) Roper, and her sisters, Audrey Cochran and Jacqueline Owen.
Glennis and Charles met as children and got all of the bumps out of the way as he pulled her over tree roots in his little wagon. Their first date as young adults was to the fair chaperoning their friends. He won a miniature "engagement ring and wedding ring" set that night at the fair and presented it to Glennis. They were married in August of the following year. Glennis shared that the most important thing in a marriage was trust.
Early in life, Glennis worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co as one of the southeasts' first computer operators. She later worked for A&P Supermarket and J C Penney. Her most impactful career was as a cake decorator and caterer. Her flair for design and talented cooking touched the lives of thousands in her community and the Atlanta area on their special day whether that was a birthday, graduation, shower, or wedding!
Glennis and Charles shared a common love for travel. In addition to having seen all 50 US states, they have toured countries in Europe, visited Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean and were blessed to visit Australia. For their 50th wedding anniversary, they celebrated by taking their entire family to Hawaii where they made wonderful memories for themselves and the family.
Glennis loved and served the Lord and was a member of Birmingham Baptist Church!
Her funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Birmingham Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Samples, Rev. Bobby Padgett and Rev. Alan Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stephen Turner, Jim Turner, Bo Page, Brandon Ward, Kent Cochran and Nick Voci. Honorary pall bearers were Jack Turner, Wyatt Turner, Garrett Lord, Henry Turner and Charlie Lord. Honorary Angel was Adalynn Ward.
