Glenn Dale Shiffer, 92 of Berwick, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024 at home surrounded by his family and some of his beloved caregivers.
Affectionately known as Glenny-Poo, GlenNERD, or GGPa, he was born in Tunkhannock in 1932. Shiffer was the son of the late William and Virgina (Cook) Shiffer.
Glenn was married to Flora (Bendiburg) Shiffer for 38 years.
He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School's Class of 1950. In his younger years, he had many jobs. He enjoyed working with the cows at Shadowbrook, delivering fuel at Bowman Petroleum, and driving school buses for the Tunkhannock School District. Upon retirement, he spent his time playing cards with his sisters, gardening, traveling, and doing puzzles. Glenn also enjoyed NASCAR and was a Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his Flo-Baby and his cockapoo Ginger. A Tunkhannock native for his whole life, Glenn moved to Berwick in 2017, where he was warmly welcomed by his friends and caregivers who treated him like family. He was so happy to be able to spend more time with his great grandkids; Abby and Tanner Calarco, Derek and Brooke Petro, Kannon and Kaycee Mooers, and Michael Sembrot Jr.
Glenn is survived by his wife; his sister Doris Solanick, of Tunkhannock; his children Glenda Ankenbauer, of Factoryville, Theresa Calarco, of Berwick, Thomas Flaherty, of Berwick, and Diane Kline, of Tunkhannock; his grandchildren Davey Mooers and wife Nicole, of Pittston, Jason Mooers, of Factoryville, Bobby Calarco and wife Janae, of Berwick, Michael Sembrot, of Tunkhannock, Katie Petro and husband Bill, of Berwick, and Brielle Ankenbauer, of Factoryville; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Edward "Jake" Shiffer, Jesse Barber, Betty Fargo, Jean Mislevy, William "Bill" Shiffer, Lillian Shiffer, Alice Shiffer, and Jim Shiffer, all of Tunkhannock.
A viewing will be held at Kelchner, McMichael, & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick, on Monday, August 26 from 1 PM until the time of his funeral service at 2 PM. Rev. William T. Barbee will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory may be made to Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick.
