Gladys M. Needham of Braintree passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the age of 91.
Born in Boston, Gladys was raised in Dorchester and later moved to Braintree in 1957 with her husband, Peter, where they raised their five children.
She played an active role in East Braintree Little League and Babe Ruth League, where her twin sons played, acting as both "coach" and Concession Manager.
She attended UMass Boston where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and minored in photography with an emphasis in black and white photos. She worked at Fidelity Investments, until retiring at age 68.
Gladys had many hobbies and interests including traveling, painting, listening to music, watching independent and foreign films, weightlifting, carpentry and just about anything involving nature and the great outdoors - camping, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, white water rafting and plane excursions. Some of her most memorable travels were to France, Canada, Alaska, California and Southwestern US. During her time in Northeastern Arizona; she spent time with the Hopi Tribe teaching life skills to the younger tribe members.
She was an avid sports fan, favoring baseball and especially enjoyed watching the New York Yankees. Most were often impressed by her vast knowledge of major league baseball.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Peter A. Needham, her sister, Doris Black, and her daughter Janet "Nicky". She is survived by her sister, Mildred Lauzier; her loving children: Catherine (Carl), Patricia, Peter (Patty), Michael (Sue); and grandchildren: James Peters (Rachel), Samuel Peters (Debbie), Andrea Needham (Al), Matt Needham, Tammy Martin and Jared Martin (Brenda); and her niece and nephews. Also, her late and cherished Papillion, Lilly Valentine.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff at Wingate at Silver Lake for their compassionate care and love for Gladys.
Relatives and friends are invited and welcomed to visit at the Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, MA. Monday February 28, 2022 from 5-7 p.m.
Funeral service will be private for immediate family.
