Mrs. Gladys (Cordero) Hippensteel, age 93 of Fishers, IN formerly of Robinson, IL passed away on Saturday September 3, 2022, at 8:25 AM at Meadow Brook Senior Living, in Fishers, IN.
Gladys was born on November 6, 1928, in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Sebastian and Stephanie "Fannie" (Gaud) Cordero. Following graduation from Ponce High School in 1944 Gladys enrolled in the University of West Virginia, graduating in 1948; she then enrolled in the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico Medical School and graduated with her Doctor of Medicine in 1955. Gladys immediately went to work at Barnes Hospital as an intern followed by her residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, IL. She met and married her husband, Dr. John L. Hippensteel in St. Louis, MO. In her leisure time, Gladys enjoyed Literature, Art, Opera and Big Band music; her hobbies included ceramics, bead and jewelry making, doll house collecting and miniature figurines as well as bird watching and gardening.
Survivors include sons, Paul Hippensteel, Indianapolis, IN, Carl Hippensteel and Cary Miller, Chicago, IL and Derk Hippensteel, Indianapolis, IN. A sister, Nelly Cordero, Ponce, Puerto Rico; two nephews, Frankie Cordero, Ponce, Puerto Rico, Jorge Cordero, Denver, CO; two nieces, Sandra Cordero, Ponce, Puerto Rico and Angela Del Murro, San Juan, Puerto Rico and a cousin, Luisa Mercedes, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Dr. John Hippensteel in 1990 and a brother, Frank Cordero.
The Funeral Service will be Saturday September 10, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Carl Hippensteel officiating. Visitation will be Saturday September 10, 2022, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, LaMotte Township, Crawford County, IL.
