Mrs. Gladys Douglas Edmondson, age 100, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Edmondson was born in Cornish, Maine on September 25, 1921, the daughter of the late LeRoy Douglas and the late Viola Lowell Douglas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Horace G. Edmondson, Jr., and by her son, Andrew Edmondson.
Mrs. Edmondson began her education in Cornish, Maine and Portland, Maine. After moving with her family to Rome, she went back to school and received her bachelor's degree in education from Berry College. She taught for several years at Armuchee High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rome where she taught Sunday School and was active in the United Methodist Women Ministry. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, Redmond Hospital, blood drives and as a special education instructor at Northwest Georgia Regional Facility.
She is survived by her children, Catherine King (Mike) of Rome, Elizabeth Edmondson of Woodstock, GA, and Samuel Edmondson (Eileen) of Salem, SC; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Edmondson of Rome; her grandchildren, Philip B. King (Jenny) of Woodstock, GA, Erin King (David Cooper) of Atlanta, GA, Clinton Edmondson of Studio City, CA, Morgan Edmondson of Alpharetta, GA, Cody Ward, (Heather) of Cumming, GA, and Grady Edmondson (Kristen) of Hendersonville, TN; her great grandchildren, Joshua King and Savannah Ward; her sister-in-law, LaNelle Edmondson Holloway of Midville; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedartown, Georgia.
