Gladys B. Whitney, of Nottingham, NH passed away peacefully, at her beloved Pawtuckaway Lake house overlooking the lake, on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
She was born Gladys Elizabeth Becker in Braintree, MA on May 18, 1927, daughter of the late Ernest and Erna (Engel) Becker. Because Gladys' mother passed away when she was young, Gladys had a step-mother Elsa Becker who helped to raise her. Gladys graduated from Braintree High School, Braintree, MA, in 1945, and from the Chamberlain School, Boston, in 1947.
She was married to Robert C. Whitney on September 10, 1949. She worked in the retail and banking business for many years, while also raising a family. After she retired, Gladys enjoyed traveling all over the world including to Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe, seeing the sights and meeting new people. Gladys also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. In particular, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her lakeshore home on Pawtuckaway Lake in NH.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert.
She is survived by her son, David Whitney, son and daughter-in-law, William Whitney and Carol Cote, 3 grandchildren, Collette Whitney Bierlich and her husband K.C. Bierlich, Noella Whitney, Robert Whitney, one great-grandchild, Caroline Marie Bierlich, plus nieces, Pamela, Mindy, Katherine, nephew, Karl and their extended families scattered from Virginia to Oregon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 2 Epping St., Raymond, NH.
Burial at a later date will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry, NH.
