Gladys Pearson Beavers, 99, passed away on April 3 after a long illness.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Carlin, and her grandson, Aaron Petzold. She was the third of four children born to Arthur William and Eva Arnett Pearson. She was the last surviving member of her siblings; Welby Pearson, Virginia Hough, and Helen Mossburg.
Born March 14, 1923 in Hamilton, Gladys lived her entire life in Loudoun County. She graduated from Lincoln High School, where she would later teach third and fourth grade when it became an elementary school. She also taught those grades at Banneker Elementary School in Middleburg.
She met her husband after renting a room from his aunt in the small village of Unison, having moved there after obtaining her teaching degree from Madison College in Harrisonburg. She taught in the Unison-Bloomfield School before it burned down in 1944 and she left teaching for a time to start her family.
Gladys grew up in the Hamilton Baptist Church and was an active member for most of her life, teaching Sunday School for many years. Later she would become a member of the Middleburg Baptist Church.
Gladys and Carlin raised their three children on the Beavers' family farm near Middleburg where she always had a flourishing vegetable garden. As her family grew and moved to many states, she enjoyed visiting all the new places and cities.
Survivors include sons Shirley (Donna) of Hilton Head Island, Norris (Liz) of Middleburg, and daughter Katherine Ann of Chicago. She also leaves behind four grandsons: John (Natalie), William (Elizabeth), Benton (Meghan), and Jefferson. Also surviving is one granddaughter, Peggy (Trevor) Smith. She has eleven great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. Gladys will be buried by her husband in Ebenezer Cemetery in Bluemont.
