Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. Army Veteran of World War II
Gilbert was born on June 28, 1917 in Los Angeles, California to Rafael Negrete and Guadalupe Sanchez. His original name at birth was Donaciano after his Grandfather, he did not like the name and told the kids at school that his name was Gilbert, he came home with his report card and his father asked why is Gilbert on the card, he replied that that was the name he wanted to go buy and had it legally changed to Gilbert. He married Angela Pacheco on January 4, 1941 at St. Vincent's Church in Los Angeles. They had 5 children Irene Aurelia, Loretta Ann, Diane Andrea, Catherine Marie, and Gilbert Joseph Jr., who all miss him very much. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II, South Pacific, serving in the Philippine Islands, hw was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Unit Citation Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945 achieving the rank of Captian. He was a proud man and proud of his Military Service. He was a loving husband to Angela for 54 years. Gilbert Passed away on March 19, 1995 at the age of 77. He was predeceased in death by his Daughter Loretta, Parents Rafael and Lupe Negrete and Brother Ralph Negrette. He was survived by his wife of 54 Years Angela, Children Irene Walker, Diane (Jim) Pfutzner, Cathy (Mike) Power, Gilbert (Maureen) Negrette Jr., 8 Grandchildren, Crystal (Myron) Bartlett, James (Denise) Walker, Angela (Ken) Wilburn, James (Sophie) Pfutzner, Kim (Nick) Chater, Christy Power, Michael Power and April Negrette, 6 Great-Grandchildren Ryan Salazar, Sara Bartlett, Jared Walker, Andrea Willburn, Melissa and Jamie Pfutzner. Sister Carmen (Bill) King, Sister-in-Laws Kay Negrette, Pearl Negrette, June Negrette, Vera (Wes) Heueisen, Mary (Tom) Dawes, Brother-in-Laws Edward (Ethel) Pacheco and Manuel Pacheco, Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
