It is with sad and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gilbert Loring Fox, 93, on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at his home in East Jordan surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 29, 1930, in Gaylord, Michigan, the son of William Henry and Rueybell (Barber) Fox.
He served in the Army from 1951-1953 and upon completion of his service he then attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa and received his B.S. in Biology from San Jose' University in San Jose', California.
He married Bonnie Anderson on July 27, 1957, in San Leandro, California.
Gilbert was a pastor at Community of Christ Church for many years and also started a youth group called the Mini Saints and planned many activities, trips and parties. Every summer he took his family camping at the Park of the Pines family church camp.
Gilbert was very active in the community and volunteered at juvenile court mentoring troubled youths, and volunteered at Camp Quality (camp for kids with cancer). He was also a past East Jordan City Council member.
He retired from Big Rock Nuclear power plant after 27 years of employment. He and Bonnie lived in East Jordan for 62 years.
He always put his family first. He loved to garden and had a big vegetable garden and a large flower bed. He loved nature and after his retirement, he loved to sit on his back porch and look at the view of the Jordan River and watch the birds in his backyard.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and would have campfire cook outs with s'mores. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and a sparkle in his eye.
