Geronimo "Sonnie" Munguia Jr., age 74, passed away at his home in Odessa on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He was born in Corpus Christi, TX to the late Geronimo Sr. and Dominga (Molina) Munguia on Wednesday, July 14, 1948. Sonnie served in the US Army Airborne division and was a proud veteran and paratrooper. He had the most important job of rigging to make sure the chutes were in best working condition.
His love was for cars and mechanic work. He operated his own business doing car repair. He and his brother, Lupe, raced cars together. Lupe drove and Sonnie was the crew chief as well as a devoted fan of watching drag races. Sonnie was pretty sharp at playing pool and was an excellent cook. He had tons of trophies for chili cook offs and BBQ contests. He also enjoyed RV travel and was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his significant other of 30 years: Lupe Lujan of Odessa; sons: Trey Munguia and Mario Munguia and wife Beatriz, all of Odessa; daughter: Donna Delacruz and husband Chris of El Paso; brothers: Lupe Munguia, and Butch Munguia and wife Karen, all of Odessa; sister: Margaret Flores of Odessa; ten beloved grandchildren and ten special great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Richard Munguia.
Visitation at the funeral home starts on Thursday, October 27th at 11:00 am. Funeral services will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Pastor Larry Hood will officiate.
