Geraldine "Deenie" Gastone, 70, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2020 at CareOne in Northampton. She was born on August 6th, 1949 in Springfield, MA and spent the majority of her life residing in Huntington, MA. A self-described "pioneer woman," Deenie enjoyed spending time hiking, gardening, kayaking, walking with friends and neighbors, baking, and tending to her historic home. She was a thoughtful and giving person who was always willing to help others. Deenie attended Springfield Technical High School in Springfield, MA. She was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She later attended Boston College where she received her Master's in Social Work. As a clinical social worker, Deenie spent most of her career working with high-risk youth, first at the Pace Center School and later at Springdale Education Center until her retirement. She was a devoted clinician who deeply cared for the students she worked with. She is survived by her children Adam Porth and Aliza Porth; grandchildren, Colin and Evan; brother, Tom Gastone of North Carolina; niece, Tracy Rubman of Vermont; and many other family members and friends. She will always be remembered for her extraordinary strength, thriftiness, and kindness. Due to the current public health situation, the funeral services with be private. A memorial will be held at a later date. Ahearn Funeral Home in Northampton, has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
