Geraldine Blackney was born in Hancock, Michigan on March 31, 1936 and died in Ann Arbor, Michigan July 4, 2022. She lived much of her early years on the Sturgeon River near Keweenaw Bay, Baraga County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and held both Bachelor and Master Degrees from The University of Michigan. In the 1950's, while at Michigan, she was a member of the team that analyzed the data from the development of the Saulk Polio Vaccine. Geraldine taught at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan where she resided much of her life. She was an avid reader, adventuresome traveler and consummate fan of Turner Classic Movies. She also was a life-long collector and devotee of the arts and was an accomplished weaver and potter in her own right. Later, her love of and commitment to the Ann Arbor/University of Michigan community was a major part of her life. She loved the culture, music, environment and social fabric that the University fostered. She is survived by her sister Nancy LaTendresse ( Chinu Bhavsar), Ann Arbor, Mi; niece Alison LaTendresse (Kent Lambert), Chicago, Il; sister-in-law Nancy (the late Joseph LaTendresse) Rios, San Diego, Ca: nephew John LaTondresse, San Diego, Ca; sister-in-law Mary Blackney Erickson, Murfreesboro, Tn and brother and sister-in law, Paul and Christina Blackney, Atlanta, Ga. Geraldine was preceded in death in 2001 by her husband, Willard C. (Bud) Blackney, Jr. Her cremains, along with those of her husband, will be interred at Forrest Hills Cemetery, Ann Arbor, on July 25, 2022.
