Gerald Roy Severson (G.R. to some, Jerry to others), a 37-year resident of the Big Lake community, passed away peacefully in his home on October 9, 2024. Gerald was born in Seattle, Washington to Gordon and Allegra Severson on December 15, 1935. Gerald joined the armed forces after attending high school, and soon after started G.R. Severson Trucking as a general contractor where he worked tirelessly most of his life. After retirement, he found plenty of other work to keep him busy: hauling heavy equipment, buying and selling cars and trucks, and when he stepped back from that a little, he started buying and selling puppies.
Jerry was a Mason with the Shriners since 1975 and was a member of the Washington Dump Truck Association, as well as the NRA and the American Truck Historical Society. He loved traveling, whether it was to visit family or friends, participate in truck shows all over the country, or to buy things to resell - he was always a doer. Near and dear to his heart was the Big Lake Fire Department, with whom he spent countless hours visiting, volunteering, shooting the bull, and making friends - he regaled them with stories from his past and present.
Jerry was survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Kari Severson and his daughter Michelle Davis, as well as stepchildren: Mardeen and Dan Walker; Steve Randall; and Debra and Bill VanHooser. Jerry leaves behind 22 grandchildren; Angela Severson, Leslie Lombardo, Kyle Severson, Gabrielle Whiley, Kelsey Severson, Tabatha Davis, Lexavier Davis, Acacia Davis, Bonnie Close-Harrison, Jeremy Close, Jacob Randall, Jessica Randall, Jordan Randall, Jeremy Randall, Dylan Randall, Allyce Riemenschneider, Wesley VanHooser, Tye Acton, Savannah Laursen, Ammon Acton, Jacob Acton and Chloe Acton; as well as 19 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Severson (2014); his son, Gary Severson (1996); and his stepson, David Randall (2001).
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 26, 2024, at 1:00PM at the Big Lake Fire House, 16818 W. Big Lake Blvd, Mount Vernon, WA.
