Dr. Madden or Jerry as he was known to friends and family traveled extensively as he pursued his career teaching finance at the university level. An extract of Jerry's submission to an alumni publication in 2014 is informative.
"After graduating from St. Joseph College, I joined the U.S. Army Reserves, and worked as an internal auditor and public accountant. Next I studied for the M.B.A., graduating from Temple University. Wanting to become a professor of Finance I was admitted to the Doctoral Program in Business Administration, Pennsylvania State University, and graduated in 1976. My academic career included service at all ranks, including Visiting Professor of Finance. I began teaching as a Teaching Assistant, Penn State University, and taught at 15 colleges and universities, including 14 in the U.S., West, Mid-West, and Northeast, and one in Ireland. After three years as a visiting Finance faculty with Syracuse University I was awarded emeritus status. My last visit was with Franklin & Marshall College. I enjoyed teaching undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Master of Business Administration and specialized Finance Masters' program. My research is published in numerous Finance journals, including the Journal of Finance. Prentice-Hall published my book, which introduced students to the first investment software product of Value Line, Inc., VALUE/SCREEN Plus. I presented research papers in Toronto, Ontario; Brussels, Belgium; Fontainebleau, France; Johannesburg, South Africa; and, Gothenburg, Sweden. I also have two published poems on the topic of time. I am a Board member for a Condominium Association and a fundraiser for the humane society. Playing full court basketball and minding a 4 year old pointer dog are my inside and outside pursuits."
After 2014 Jerry spent his time playing 3 on 3 basketball, volunteering at the Prouty, competing in adult spelling bees, serving on the Board of the Condo Association, caring for his pointer Nelson, tracking his investments and being devoted to his Catholic Faith.
Survivors include his four brothers Edward, John, Thomas (Pam), Paul (Jean) and numerous nieces and nephews.
