The lights went out on Deer Lake Road when, at 3 p.m., Monday, June 27, Gerald "Jerry" Mackin passed away. He loved God, his wife Gene of 50 years, and his immediate family including older brother Ron, nephews David Mackin of Los Gatos, California, Bill Kolesnik of Sebastian, Florida, and David Kolesnik of Vero Beach, Florida along with their families, and countless dear friends.
Jerry was born and raised in Queens, New York where he also attended college while living at home and working to pay his own tuition. He was an electrical engineer for General Electric, NASA, and Texas Instruments. His career highlights included working for NASA at the beginning of the space program and Apollo missions. While at Texas Instruments, his work included the development of the Harpoon missile and national defense.
He retired to Wimberley, Texas in 1995, which he called his "Piece of Heaven." There he became an active member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus where he never met a stranger and touched the lives of many. Jerry was fun-loving, humble, and always a man of his word.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Lions Club of Wimberley and the Knights of Columbus.
As one of his nephew's sons said, "He was a man ahead of his time."
I'll always love you,
Gene
