Gerald Maurice "Jerry" Hudson passed away peacefully at his home on December 13 at the age of 92. He was born in Hammond, Indiana to Maurice "Miggs" and Elsie (Reichardt) Hudson. Jerry graduated from Hammond HS in 1947. It was there he met Dorothy Marie Meek and they married two years later. In 2019 they were blessed to have celebrated 70 years of marriage.
After high school Jerry worked while attending Purdue University- Hammond in the evenings, studying mechanical engineering. Jerry left school early as his family began to grow to work full-time for DuBois Engineering in Hammond. He worked there and for Allied Structural Steel until 1967, and then joined Tri-City Electric as an Estimator / Project Manager until his retirement 25 years later. In 2001 Jerry and Dorothy moved to South Bend to be closer to family. They were parishioners at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
Jerry and Dorothy loved traveling having visited 46 states including trips to Hawaii and Europe. They especially enjoyed traveling to Door County, Wisconsin with dear friends Barb and Jay. Jerry and Dorothy attended many Purdue football games over the years and loved watching Purdue and IU basketball, White Sox and Bears.
Jerry had a deep personal faith in God. He was a kind, thoughtful and extremely patient man with a subtle wit and genuine nature. He was a loyal husband, tremendous father, and grandfather, and friend to many. Jerry had a wide range of interests and hobbies including furniture building, carpentry, and collecting and restoring antique firearms. In his later years he built and flew radio control planes as a member of the South Bend RC Club.
Jerry is survived by son Craig (Lori) Hudson, daughter-in-law Karen Hudson, grandchildren Jessica (Andrew) Winkler, Sam (Allison) Hudson, Rebecca Hudson, and Michael Hudson. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy last March, son Bruce Hudson, parents, sister Arlene and brother-in-law George Hacker, and many dear cousins and friends.
