Gerald Anthony Ashbeck, age 90, passed away on April 5th, 2024, in Flat Rock, North Carolina. He was a beloved father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who knew him.
Gerry was born on August 23, 1933, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. It is here where he spent his formative years. Son of Frank and Teresa Ashbeck, he was reared and grew up with his sisters Doris Ann and Mary Ellen; he also had a sister Jane Marie who unfortunately passed away at an early age. Gerry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951 and proudly attended Marquette University, gaining a B.S. degree in Business. He promptly enlisted into Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Herbert J Thomas, honorably discharged in 1961.
After returning to Wisconsin, Gerry was offered a job with Employers Insurance of Wausau, later called Wausau Insurance Companies. He gained his CPA certificate, advanced throughout the company to Regional Vice President, relocated to Philadelphia for 3 years, returned to Wisconsin, and after 40 years of employment with the same company, retired from Wausau Insurance Companies in 1997.
Overshadowing the above accolades, Gerry was a devoted father. He loved spending quality time with his three children, Gerard, Garth and Felicity and cherished activities from playing games to multiple outdoor activities to travel near and far. He was always there to share advice, guidance, and encouragement no matter what life challenge was faced.
Gerry was married on January 14, 1990 to Julia Ann Han in Wausau, Wisconsin. After retirement in 1997, they traveled the country chasing dreams and grandchildren and fulfilling bucket lists, settling in a new location for retirement at the Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Enjoying all seasons of golf and social activities, Gerry and Julie were active members of their community, volunteering for various causes and organizations.
Gerry is survived by many that love him. His former wife Betty, his loving wife Julia, children Gerard, Garth and Felicity and grandchildren Nicholas, Alaina, Daniel, Madeline, Evan, and Davis. In addition, stepchildren Christopher and Gregory and grandchildren Caleb, Elias, Gabriel, Ku'uleilani, Makoa, and Napuanani. Papa's sincerity and dedication and compassion will be remembered by all.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made in Gerry's memory to Safelight: Hope and Healing for Families, at https://safelightfamily.org.
God blessed his life and now holds his soul in His hands. Peace will now be yours forever.
