Gerald Douglas "Gary" Haynes, 75, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, in the love and comfort of his family. Gary as he was known to his family and friends was born on November 2, 1945 in Marion, Indiana to the late Paul Victor Haynes and Cleo (Priser) Haynes Rennaker. In addition to his parents, a daughter Jennifer Haynes and his sister Phyllis E. Duhamell, preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Eubank)Haynes; children, Andrew Haynes, Loretta (Todd) Knight, Victoria (Robert) Frederick; 6 loving grandchildren, Ean (Melissa) Frederick, Emily (Brendan) Roodbergen, Phillip (Gabriela) Wood, Jacob Wood, Nicholas Knight, Cameron Knight and 4 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Terry (Sondra) Haynes, David (Carolyn) Haynes and Galen Haynes.
Gary worked as an engineer for 30 years in Marion Indiana, before relocating to Elkhart, where he continued to work for various companies in the area, until he retired. His passion was playing with and restoring antiques farm and garden size tractors, he especially liked the John Deere brand.
Gary was man of great faith and a very active member of Adamsville Road Church of God, where he served as a board member. He enjoyed the Saturday morning breakfasts with his friends and attended several weekly devotional groups. He also enjoyed writing Southern Gospel songs with Pastor Danny Olsen.
Gary was just a down to earth guy, who loved his Lord, his family and spending time with his brothers and cousins. Family reunions were important to him.
Friends and Family may gather from 12-1 with a celebration of Gary's life beginning at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Adamsville Road Church of God, 51287 CR 7, Elkhart, IN 46514. Pastors Glenn McClimans and Pastor Denny Olsen will officiate. Per his wishes, cremation was chosen.
