Gerald Ramsey "G.R.," "Jerry," "Ace," "Iffy" Anderson Jr., 53, died on February 10, 2024 after a long illness.
G.R. graduated from Orono High School, Drake University and Colombia Journalism School. He played as a semi-professional pitcher for the Eau Claire Owls. He wrote for City Pages, MinnPost, BringMeTheNews and other well-received publications. As a co-host and on-air personality, G.R. broadcasted for "myTalk" 107.1, WCCO and KSTP AM-1500. He was a professor at the University of Minnesota in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Hamline University and IPR College of Creative Arts. He played in the bands Rex Daisy (Signed to Geffen Records), 2 Tickets 2 Paradise and The Ardent Spirits, among many others. His most recent project with The Ardent Spirits showed his talents for songwriting, drumming, arranging and recording. Finally, he did several remixes for Prince that have been released by Paisley Park.
G.R. said, "I love to be proven wrong. I love to learn." While he worked for City Pages as a reporter and then managing editor, he won two University of Minnesota Frank J. Premack awards, the state's highest honor for public service journalism. He only ever wanted the truth. He never had a retraction.
G.R. is survived by his parents Jerry and Joann Anderson, beloved sister Lavon Kellner, niece Chloe Kellner, good friend David Kellner, fianc?e Kristin Boorsma, exquisite cat ShaSha, many cousins, as well as many friends and family.
Services were held at St. Martin's by the Lake Episcopal Church, Minnetonka Beach, MN on Friday, February 16, 2024. Please direct memorials to the family.
