Georgianna "June" Medfooney Jones, age 93, of San Antonio, TX passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, March 5, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late James Albert Jones. Born on December 18, 1928 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Georgianna was a daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Shabo) Madfounian.
During the depression years of her youth in Rhode Island, June left grade school around the 9th grade in order to go to work and help her family with finances. She worked as seamstress in a factory called Standard Romper and various other jobs, before meeting her husband Al. Shortly after the birth of their first child Kenneth, June quit her job to become a homemaker. Her husband Al worked long hard hours in a factory until one day he met a man by the name of David Miller, who presented him with a proposition to sell real estate, but the opportunity required him to travel all the way to Texas. Al was given June's blessing to come to Texas to try his hand at selling real estate. During the weeks that he was there, he found the money to be good and asked June if she would consider living in Texas, knowing that she would have to leave her Rhode Island family and adjust to a completely different culture and way of life. Without hesitation, she said yes and they chose to settle in the small town of Llano, Texas because of it's close proximity to Sunrise Beach, where her husbands real estate venture was located.
For over 50 years, the majority of her 93 years of life, June lived in Llano raising her two sons. Although she lived in San Antonio for the last 9 years of her life, she always considered Llano her true home. June loved taking care of her yard and used to grow the most beautiful gardens in her earlier years. Using the fresh vegetables from her gardens, she took great pride in cooking the most wonderful ethnic dishes for family and friends to enjoy. Spending time with her family was something she cherished, and she always looked forward to visits from her sons and granddaughters. She used to love taking long walks around town for her exercise and relaxing at home watching a good classic movie or reading a biography about one of her favorite screen stars.
Being a very spiritual person, June enjoyed taking pilgrimages to Europe and the Holy Land during the 70's and 80's. While living in Llano, she faithfully attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church. When fundraising efforts were under way to build a new Catholic Church building in the 70's, June devoted much of her time and effort to the cause and was so pleased to see the new building come to fruition.
Of course, she also enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas throughout the years. It was somewhere she could go alone if she felt like it at the spur of the moment, and have a wonderful time. June was very lucky and was able to make trips there on her own until she was 90.
She is survived by her two sons Kenneth Jones of Arcadia, CA and Stephen Jones of San Antonio, TX. June was the cherished grandmother to Elizabeth Jones and Jessica Jones. She was the sister of Rose Zukowski of Yarmouth Port, MA and the late Josephine Panaccione, Sally Parillo, Isabel White, Joseph Metfouney and George Metfouney.
