George "Gig" A. Wilkinson, 65, of New Ashford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. Born in Pittsfield MA on October 2, 1956, the son of the late George and Ann Pigott Wilkinson.
George started working at the Country Club of Pittsfield in 1975, leaving in 1978, only to return as Club Mechanic in 2019. George worked at Oak Hill CC in NY, the CC of Farmington in CT, the former Cranwell Resort & Club, Donnybrook, and Berkshire Hills CC. During all those years he still spoke about working the 1980 PGA Championship tournament at Oak Hill that Jack Nicklaus won as being one of the best times of his working career; working eighty hours a week was well worth it to experience that.
George is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Joan L'Heureux, whom he married on April 7, 1995. He leaves his siblings, William "Wilkie" Wilkinson (Beth), Mary Wilkinson, Ann Murray (Joe), and Colleen Bergdoll (Chris), and sisters in law, Linda Wilkinson and Tracy Wilkinson; along with sister and brother in law's Roberta and Dennis Peron and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved Golden Retriever, Cooper.
Besides his parents, George is predeceased by his brothers Jack and Mike.
