George Artis Wilkerson, longtime resident of Conroe, and son of the late George Lillie Wilkerson and Tommie Lee (Burrel) Wilkerson was born on February 14, 1942. He departed this life on Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 83. George was born in Navasota, Texas, and grew up in Montgomery, Texas, where he graduated from Lincoln High School. He later made his home in Conroe, Texas, where he built a life centered on family, faith, and hard work.
George dedicated over 50 years of service to the Rigby Owen, Jr. family in Conroe, where his loyalty, work ethic, and steady presence earned him respect and admiration. A true conversationalist, George could talk with anyone about nearly any subject, often recalling the past with a vivid memory and sharing stories that fascinated and entertained.
Family was the heart of George's life. His greatest love was his wife, Elouise, with whom he raised their family. Their home became a place of joy, laughter, and togetherness, especially during gatherings where George's famous barbecue was always a highlight.
George enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. A challenging game of Dominoes with family and friends brought him happiness, and his love of fishing provided countless peaceful days?especially when shared with his best friend, Rooster.
He will be remembered as a faithful, hardworking, loyal man who loved deeply, supported those he cherished, and left behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and storytelling that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Tommie Lee Wilkerson; his beloved wife, Elouise Wilkerson, son, George M. Wilkerson, and his sisters, Cyrenthia J. Campbell and Gladys M. Russell.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his loving children, Peggy Wilkerson, Rodney Wilkerson, Bernice Collins, Chandra Wilkerson, (stepdaughters) Sabrina Sneed and husband, Henry and Carolyn Satcherwhite; brothers, James E. Wilkerson and wife, Viola, Johnny R. Wilkerson, and Tommy Joe Wilkerson and wife, Ann; grandchildren, Anesia Bullfinch, Ronnie Wilkerson, Chelsea Wilkerson, Megan Miller, Kavan Wilkerson and Tyson Wilkerson; and 13 great grandchildren. George also leaves behind his best friend, Henry B. Scott "Rooster" and a host of dear relatives and caring friends.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Community Church with Pastor Paul Brown and Pastor Milton Taylor officiating.
