Born September 19, 1930, George grew up in East Dallas Fair Park area and Graduated from North Dallas High School.
Fulfilled his lifetime childhood dream as a Pilot for the Strategic Air Command flying B-25's, B-29's and KC-97 refueling tankers. He proudly served 3 years in the Naval Air Reserve while attending University of North Texas. After serving as an Air Force pilot, he retired after 35 years with American Airlines. He served as Pilot, Instructor and Chief Pilot at DFW Airport.
He met his wife-to-be, Demetra Hronopulous, while serving at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He moved to Dallas to start his lifelong dream of being an international airline captain
based at Dallas Love Field Airport in 1956.
Coincidentally, Deme moved to Dallas to begin her nursing career. In her words, she "chased him until he caught her!" They were married February 25, 1956. They enjoyed just short of 65 wedded years when she lost her battle two years ago to dementia.
He flew worldwide and retired with over 20,000 flying hours: all of the US, Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Viet Nam and more. He flew his last retirement trip in Sept 1990 to N. Zealand and Hawaii. Upon retirement he worked as a consultant interviewing pilot applicants for American Airlines.
Some of his fondest memories included working with Father 'B' to help start the Lewisville Catholic Community in the 60's, which became the present St. Phillips Catholic Church. He served as a
board member, lector and cantor.
His love for music let him be a long-time choir member and cantor since 1958.He enjoyed up to 60 years as a church choir member at St Monica, St. Rita and All Saints Catholic Church. While there he helped set up the Cantor program in 1978. He and his wife Deme served as Fellowship Commissioners. George and Deme, along with Terri & Joe Zoccoli, started the Golden
Saints monthly luncheons, which is still popular for Seniors.
