On the morning of Friday, December 11, 2020, George Richard Van Hoorebeke, 83, of Terre Haute, moved to his Heavenly home. George was a godly man who loved the Lord and his family and set an example for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.
George was born in Davenport, IA to Richard Frances and Alice Irene on July 2, 1938.
He went to St. Mary's Catholic School, Rock Island, IL, Alleman High School, Rock Island, IL, and graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA with a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
George was married to Joyce Diane Webb for 57 years on May 18, 1963 at Our Lady of Wayside Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
He began his finance career at Pure Oil Company, Palatine, IL. He then went to Kokomo Spring in Kokomo IN. He then opened up Sea Nymph Boat Company in Peru, IN. He was the finance director at VNA\Hospice in Terre Haute, IN until retirement in 2011.
He was an Army veteran.
- He was a member of Ocala West United Methodist and belonged to the Men's Club. He volunteered for Marion County Hospice in Ocala, FL.
- He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Terre Haute,IN. He volunteered for VNA/Hospice in Terre Haute, IN.
- He was a very loving husband and loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a religious man, funny, never knew a stranger man and loved to volunteer.
- He had a huge passion for Lionel Trains and A Christmas Story.
- He was a huge history reader with WWII being his passion.
He received numerous awards throughout his career both while working and volunteering. He was a member of the Bona Vista Board for 13 years in Kokomo,IN.
George is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Alice Van Hoorebeke and his son, Brian Andrew Van Hoorebeke.
George is survived by his wife, Joyce Diane Webb Van Hoorebeke, his daughter, Lisa Ann Downs (Husband Charles Mark), his son, Scott David Van Hoorebeke and daughter Amy Christine Woodard (Husband David) and sister Karen Jean Goyins (Husband Tom).
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren:
Curtis Richard Korby (wife Amanda), great grandsons, Ethan and Wesley, Laura Ann Rivers (husband Vince), great granddaughter, Katherine.
Jacob Edgar Frances Korby, Kaylen Brianna Woodard, Kasen Brian Woodard, and survived by numerous cousins.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be given to:
