George William Thompson, age 93 of Roswell, Georgia died peacefully surrounded by his family on December 14, 2020 following a sudden illness. George lived most of his adult life in Toledo, Ohio and always considered that his home even after moving to Marietta, Georgia a few years ago. George is survived by his four children, Scott, Lisa, Laurie and Lynne (Brian), two grandchildren, Ross and Lindsay, and one great grandchild Kelsey, his brother Carl (Ingrid) and many cousins. George was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Barbara Ann, his brothers Paul and Charles, his sister Grace, and his parents Marguerite and Emmett. George was born on November 19, 1927 in Cecil, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Upon honorable discharge, he obtained a business degree from the University of Toledo, followed by employment at Owens-Illinois for over 30 years. George was an avid golfer and bowler and he participated in numerous leagues in both sports well into his 80's. George also loved to volunteer his time to local charities. He spent many years helping out at the Ronald McDonald House in Toledo and was a yearly volunteer at the Jamie Farr Golf Tournament. George was the main caregiver for his wife Barbara for over twenty years following her debilitating stroke. In 2013 they moved to Marietta, Georgia to be near their eldest daughter Lynne and her family. After Barbara's passing, George moved to Vickery Rose Retirement Resort where he enjoyed playing poker, canasta, bingo, and putting together jigsaw puzzles with his friends. George was a sweet and selfless soul who would talk to anyone he met and enjoyed nothing more than having hours of great conversation with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his kindness and generosity. We will miss his twinkling blue eyes and smiling face. Services are scheduled for today, Sunday, December 20th, 2:00 pm, at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA, with internment to follow at Georgia National Cemetery.
