George H. Smith, 83, of Nederland, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born December 3, 1938, in Voth, Texas, to Mary Margaret Kibodeaux Smith and Hubert George Smith. He was a United States Marine veteran having served during the Vietnam era.
George was a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Nederland. He retired from BASF as a maintenance supervisor after thirty-four years. He enjoyed gardening and raising cattle and was quite the handy man. He even built a beach house. George was an excellent cook especially, his meatballs and gravy. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-one years, Saundra Smith, of Nederland; children, Sharon Williamson and husband, Roger, of Dallas; Stacey Richards and husband, Paul, of Village Mills; Geri Reid and husband, Stephen, of Nederland; Frank Smith, of Long Beach, California; Stephen Smith and wife, Victoria, of Washington D.C.; grandchildren, Bradley and wife, Tia; Kelsey and husband, Calvin; Lauren and husband, Colton; Savannah; Wil and wife, Jenny; Jennifer; Andrew; Jack; and Alex; great-grandchildren, Bennett; Finley; Sloane; Olive; Juliet; Josie; and Sadie; sister, Emma Lee Loftin, of Willis; special nephews, Michael and Lance Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edna; Hattie; June; Lois; Ruby; and Lela; brother, Larry "Mike" Smith; grandson, P.J. Richards; godfather, Russell Capo; and his beloved yorkie, Sugar Beatrice.
A gathering of Mr. Smith's family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil will be 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2022, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with his interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
