George Darold Satre, 89, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at his home in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he resided for 38 years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Allen Hughes, Jr. officiating. George has asked that any veteran, particularly those who served in Vietnam, be invited as his way to recognize and honor their service to their country. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m.
George was born March 3, 1932 in Post Falls, Idaho to Julian J. Satre and Myrtle Alida (Clark) Satre. Enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 at the age of 17, he retired as a M/Sgt in 1975, having served in multiple locations around the world. He later spent twelve years with the U.S. Civil Service as the Chief of Plans and Programs for the Communications Squadron at Sheppard Air Force Base. As a Vietnam veteran, George was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Military Order of the Cooties. He served as Head of the Membership Department for the MOC from September 1999 to July 2002.
George was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother and sisters, Wendell Satre, Loraine Satre, Eleanor Satre and Irma (Satre) Ostergard.
He is survived by his wife of over 42 years, Annette Minnerly Satre; daughters, Gloria Hargis (Ray Hargis), Jolene Whitten (Randy Whitten), and Tanya Satre; grandson, Rex Wilson (Stephanie Wilson); granddaughters, Mallory Rodgers (Corey Rodgers), Grace Venanzetti, Erika Venanzetti, Emily Mistretta, and Noemi Mistretta; great-grandsons, Jax Wilson and Harrison Rodgers; as well as nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many friends.
