George Arrese Rouff October 18, 1942 - May 27, 2022On Friday, May 27, 2022, George Arrese Rouff, husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 79. On October 18, 1942, George was born in Hattisburg, MS, to Gus and Marie Rouff. George's father, Gus, relocated his family to Yuma, AZ in 1950 when he was transferred from Douglas, AZ by APS. George attended Immaculate Conception School (4th Ave campus) and graduated from Yuma High School in 1960. He attended college at the University of Arizona, graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1964, and his Juris Doctor from the University of San Fernando Valley College of Law in 1968. He was a member of the State Bar Associations of Montana, California, and Arizona. He met his wife, Barbara Jean (Lootens) Rouff in Southern California, and they were married on June 26, 1971. Shortly after that, they moved to Helena, Montana, where they began their family with two children. In October 1976, George moved his young family to his hometown of Yuma, AZ, opened his law practice, and in the subsequent years, nine more children were welcomed to the family.George was a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he was active with the local Knights of Columbus (KofC) Council. All eleven Rouff children attended St. Francis parish school from kindergarten through eighth grade, totalling 99 years of education at St. Francis. Over the years, George was also active with Cub Scout Pack 92 and Boy Scout Troop 92, both chartered to St. Francis and the local KofC Council. All six of George's sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout between 1989 and 1998.George constantly stressed the value of education to his family and made this a priority in terms of saving and investing for his children's future studies. All eleven children attended Arizona Western College (many with scholarships) and all continued to the University of Arizona as third generation Wildcats. In total there are 14 University of Arizona degrees earned in Medicine, Pharmacology, Speech Pathology, Public Health, Nursing, and Engineering.A popular saying of his was that music and mathematics are universal languages, so he also invested in piano lessons, with as many as six full size pianos present in the home for many years. All of his children performed in the Yuma High School band ranging from 1987 through 2011. Another investment he deemed worthy was swimming lessons and many Yuma summer evenings were spent at Kennedy Pool with the city swim passes he received as an early Father's Day present. He would say, with three-quarters of the earths surface covered with water you better be able to deal with it. He enjoyed collecting a wide range of items, many on display (or at least stored) in his eclectic office which he had to himself for the majority of his legal practice. He also enjoyed spending time at property that he owned and maintained around Co. 14th and Avenue C at which he raised chickens and cows for many years. He enjoyed studying history with a particular interest in World War II. If you engaged in a conversation with him, his passion for history would leave an indelible mark.George is preceded in death by his father, Gus (1965), his mother, Marie (1999), his Aunt Irma Gay Langston (2002), his granddaughter, Jordan Marie (2006) and his nephew, Joseph Arrese (2018).
