Retired Chief Petty Officer George William (GW) Rokosh passed away on Thursday, July 14th at the age of 73 with family by his side. Born in Chicago, Illinois, George was son to William George and Margaret (Peg) Louise Rokosh (Johnson) and brother to Nancy Rokosh. George proudly served 30 years in the United States Navy. George began his service with 2 tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. After his tours in Vietnam, George continued service with the Naval Reserves out of the Great Lakes Naval Base in Great Lakes, Illinois. During his time in the Naval Reserves, George was part of a team that transported equipment to Desert Storm. Outside of the military George worked at the College of DuPage in Illinois for 30 years where he met the love of his life, Sharon Rokosh (Salyer). George was the father of 4 sons Paul, Brandon, Christopher and Marcus. George enjoyed actively participating in his son's lives and enjoyed coaching their youth basketball teams, taking the family to a ball game and a fierce family game of Uno. George was also delighted to be a grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friends to many. After spending many years in Illinois, George moved to Crossville, Tennessee where he spent his retirement years bowling, golfing and watching his favorite team the Chicago Cubs. He will be deeply missed and always loved by those of us who knew him. Memorial services will be held August 7, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home in Wheaton, Illinois .
